Getting started with lessons doesn’t have to be overwhelming…
PMA offers 4 ways to get to know us prior to signing up for lessons. We look forward to meeting you at one of the following opportunities!
Meet the Instrument Classes
If you’ve been thinking about adding music to your child’s education, our Meet the Instruments Course is the perfect way to do so! This class will help you get a good foundation in the Suzuki method of music education and is specifically designed for parents and children to learn together. It’s the perfect way for 4 – 8 year-olds to choose an instrument and begin music lessons. Children will be introduced to the instruments taught here at The Pittsburgh Music Academy - violin, viola, cello, piano, flute, and a variety of brass instruments - with the help of hands-on exploration and guest musicians. Students will also grow their knowledge of rhythm and tonal patterns using various percussion instruments including Boomwhackers and drums. Parents are an essential part of the Suzuki method and are asked to be present in class and help their child as needed. Register Here!

Observe a Lesson
We encourage you to come and observe a private lesson and/or a group class. We encourage this especially for beginners who want to learn about what to expect before you get started. You’ll be able to experience first-hand the quality and general structure of lessons, speak to PMA teachers, students and parents. To schedule an observation, please call us at 412-344-1114 or email us.
Take a Trial Lesson
This option is perfect for students who are coming from a previous teacher/music school. Students can choose to take one 30-minute lesson, for a fee, with a PMA teacher prior to registering for a full semester of lessons. Our hope is that the teacher, student & parent feel that they are a good match to develop a beneficial relationship for learning. Students may take as many trial lessons as they want to ensure they are matched with the teacher that is best for them. Fill out our new student interest form by clicking here to request a trial lesson.
Attend a Recital
We hold recitals often, up to 30 throughout the year at our Greentree and East locations. We invite you to join us at one of these performances to see our students at their best! This is also a great time to meet many of our teachers, talk with current PMA families, and get a feel for what it will be like to be a student. Check out our upcoming events to find something that will fit with your schedule. We have solo and group recitals; some are casual, others are formal. Please contact the office with any questions about attending a recital: 412-344-1114.
