At our Meet the Instruments Workshops children will be introduced to the instruments taught here at The Pittsburgh Music Academy - violin, viola, cello, piano, flute, and a variety of brass instruments - with the help of hands-on exploration and guest musicians.

  • Solfege, Theory and Eurthymics with Jennie Nolan

    This class is designed for students who have completed at least 1 year of instrument or voice instruction and want to improve and enrich their listening skills, rhythmic execution, and music reading abilities. Students will learn the basics of Solfegio, Eurthymics, and Music Theory using a hands on approach. In addition, students will also have the opportunity to incorporate their primary instrument into the classes. Classes will be customized to meet the level of the registered students.

  • Intro to Voice

    Students and their caregiver will learn fundamental voice technique singing in this weekly class. The students will learn individual skills and to sing as a group. The class culminates in a performance on the final day. The curriculum is based on the principles of the Suzuki Voice Method and will also include activities from the Kodály and Dalcroze Eurythmics Methods.

  • Intro to Off the String Strokes for Violin and Viola

    June 16, 17, 18th 5-6:30pm

    Work on student's confidence with variety of bow strokes

    Achieving comfortable motions in the R arm, resulting in a controlled stroke with pleasant sound

    Ages/Experience: 10-14 year olds, generally targeting students in mid level ensembles; Suzuki Book 3 students (or equivalent) and up

  • Intro to Violin

    Introduction to the Violin will use the principles of the Suzuki Method to give your student the best foundation to violin study. All supplies will be provided by PMA for the first classes and you may need to rent or purchase a violin by the end of the session. Read more about the Suzuki Method on our website! Ages 3 to 5

  • Christmas in July!

    Celebrate Christmas in July on Saturday, July 25th

    From 11am-noon, all strings will read and play pieces from the Suzuki books and Festive Strings books (available at Resonance)

    At Noon, we will enjoy a meal together so pack a lunch!

    At 12:30, we will play an informal concert for parents and caregivers. Following the performance, everyone will enjoy ice cream sandwiches!
