The Pittsburgh Music Academy
Why choose PMA?

The cornerstone of our school is the conviction that every child can, with careful teaching and parental support, become a successful musician able to make music a part of his or her life. We believe music study will enrich their lives through appreciation of beauty, development of disciplined work habits, and increased self-esteem.

Testimonials

"We had heard that the lessons at PMA were of the highest quality... we were just suprised at how much our children loved going there. The instructors are serious but make it so much fun for the kids to learn!"

"We have spent so many lovely evenings and Sunday afternoons filled with music at the Pittsburgh Music Academy. PMA faculty has nurtured our five children from their first bow strokes on the string to preparing for their college music auditions. Their Suzuki education has given them an understanding of music to last a lifetime, as well as life skills, such as persistence and setting and working towards achievable goals. Almost any music student should find a happy niche within this wonderful school."

"After watching the musical development and growth of many Pittsburgh Music Academy students in our church, my husband and I were motivated to look into PMA for our own children. Our son and daughter have now been studying classical guitar and piano at PMA for 3 years, and it is amazing to see the progress they've made in that time. Their teacher is patient and enthusiastic, and keeps them engaged, and the Suzuki method is truly effective. The numerous opportunities to perform and to play in groups keep the kids inspired to polish up their pieces - and they have fun making music together. Perhaps most importantly, the satisfaction of looking at a piece for the first time and thinking, "Wow, that looks impossible" to mastering it gives the kids a well-earned sense of accomplishment. It's a life lesson they will carry with them into adulthood; they'll know with a little work, they can accomplish great things."

"Our daughter, Marissa, loves the violin and piano lessons at PMA. PMA teachers are very knowledgeable, friendly and patient and Marissa enjoys her classes, which are a combination of practical and theory lessons. The group lesson and the performance class are really great to motivate the kids to learn and recognize the accomplishments. PMA has helped to bring out the music potential in our daughter Marissa. After learning violin for 3 years, Marissa has advanced into a confident performer on stage. The Suzuki method adopted in PMA teaches Marissa to listen for beat, collaborate with others in an ensemble, perseverance and discipline through playing the violin. Marissa has become self-motivated to practice playing the violin. All these skills have carried over to other areas of learning and are proving to be a very positive influence towards her school work. Marissa enjoys violin lessons with Jennifer at PMA, as she is very patient, knowledgeable, kind, caring, encouraging and a wonderful teacher. Under the wonderful care of her PMA teachers, Marissa shows the motivation and great interest to learn to play the violin and piano. PMA has nurtured Marissa's desire and interest in violin and piano, making the learning process not only a fun process but also effective. I'm very grateful for what PMA has done for Marissa. Thanks PMA!"

"I started taking my son, Ian, to The Pittsburgh Music Academy way back in 1998 when he was about 5 years old. My daughter Kalli started in 2004 when she was 5 and she continues to take violin lessons today at PMA. The key element at PMA is the teaching staff. The teachers are so very talented at performing, playing and teaching. Many of the teachers also perform in local symphonies which gives them great credibility with their students and a rich musical life experience to pass on to them. Teaching a group class of 20 violin students ranging from 5 years old to 16 years old takes real talent! Also the years of lessons and group classes creates a strong relationship between the students and their teachers and with all that understanding and knowing of each other the teaching is so much more effective. The Greater Pittsburgh Suzuki Institute held in August each year has now added even more depth to the PMA program. Over the years I have recommended PMA to many of my friends and family and I would do so again with great confidence that their experience will be as rewarding as my family's experience has been."
